Circle of First Nations

The CENTRAL IOWA CIRCLE OF FIRST NATIONS (C.I.C.F.N.) was formed in March 2003 as a Public Non-profit organization.

Purpose

The purpose of C.I.C.F.N. is to honor and serve the Native American community. C.I.C.F.N. develops and implements programs that respect preserve and protect Native American rights, while assisting to meet the cultural needs of all First Nation people living in the greater Des Moines area, as well as central Iowa. We hope to assist Native people with food, heating costs and related expenses, increase public understanding, awareness, and appreciation for Native people, and to preserve the cultural, spiritual, and traditional ways of all Native people.

Board of Directors

The Board of Directors is comprised of a diverse group of individuals from seven different tribes. All board members reside in central Iowa and represent a range of professional backgrounds. C.IC.F.N. has a growing general membership, including members from Iowa, as well as neighboring states. They come from all walks of life and support the philosophy, events, and programs of the organization. C.I.C.F.N. meetings are held the 2nd Monday of every month.

Funding

To help fund C.I.C.F.N., we rely on tax deductible contributions, grants, and membership dues. Part of the contributions and membership dues are used to support our website, www.cicfn.org. The website contains information regarding events in Indian Country, as well as host links to our sponsors. In addition, we have helped support many traditional Pow-Wows in central Iowa and have provided emergency transportation assistance, temporary shelter, referrals to social services, emergency food, etc.
